Classic Yacht Charter [CYC], owned and operated by Dr. James C. Griffin, has been providing yachts for charter since 1995. The yachts are available at Hamburg Cove,CT ; Essex, CT; and/or Deep River, CT on the Connecticut River - depending upon a lot of things. The area has been a boating destination for more than 300 years. It is toward a continuation of this tradition that contemporary classic yachts are offered for charter. That is, better living through yachting! As an aside, everyone has a story, this is my story in an article in Small Trimarans which describes how my boating odyssey began in an unlikely location at an unlikely time http://smalltrimarans.com/blog/?p=2538#more-2538
The Grand Banks 32, Cherokee, is a 1978 fiberglass yacht powered by a single 120 hp Lehman diesel with 3' 9" drafter, 11' 6" beam, 17,000 pounds displacement, 125 gallons fresh water capacity, 110 gallons holding tank capacity, and a 15' mast height from the waterline - do not even consider going under a bridge without at least 5' clearance beyond the mast height.
The yacht is in excellent condition with only 2,662 engine hours at the start of the 2012 season. She is typically moored in beautiful Hamburg Cove which in New England is a premiere yachting destination and gateway to the upper Long Island Sound. The typical week charter is destined for Shelter Island, Watch Hill, or Block Island for gunkholing. An 8 foot West Zodiac, with outboard, is provided for exploring and transporting from anchor to land. Yes, you can take her into a slip but it is not recommended. Why take the risk? She is an exceedingly economical cruiser using 1.5 to 2.o gallons of diesel per hour! Please see the Grand Banks 32 heading for detailed information about Cherokee and a charter.
The Nonsuch 30, High Cotton, is a 1986 fiberglass yacht powered by 540 square feet of sail with 4' 11 1/2" draft, 11' 10" beam, 11,400 pounds displacement, and a 30 hp Westerbeke diesel engine. She is typically moored in the Essex Harbor yacht basin in historic Essex, CT or the Deep River Dauntless Marina. Essex is a classic New England yachting center on the CT River with all of the amenities associated with pleasurable cruising. An 8 foot Zodiac with 2 1/2 hp outboard is provided for local transportation.
She is a very easy boat to sail with her cat rig and classic lines. A 2 year retrofit was completed in 2006 and she is in pristine condition or literally better than new with upgrades and rebuilds. Please see the Nonsuch 30 heading for detailed information about High Cotton and a charter.
The Beetle Cat, Epochal, is a 1962 classic wooden sailboat boat powered by 100 square feet of sail and a 2 1/2 hp Evinrude engine. She is moored in North Cove adjacent to the Essex Harbor yacht basin in historic Essex, CT. Although Essex is a classic New England yachting center on the CT River with all of the amenities associated with pleasurable cruising, a trailer is available and she may be trailed to any predetermined location. She is a very easy boat to sail with her cat rig and classic lines.
A 5 year restoration was completed in 2007 and she is in excellent condition. Please see the Beetle Cat heading for detailed information about Epochal and a charter. Sorry about the shop picture but she is not in the water now so . . . what you see is what you get!
